Moscow. The General Prosecutor’s Office has invalidated the results of mayoral elections in Noyabrsk held on May 4. Four polling stations were excluded from the vote tallies, and the second-place candidate was declared the victor. The local general prosecutor in the Yamalo-Nenetsk Autonomous District said that Moscow’s decision is legal since supporters of one candidate violated election laws by campaigning on May 3 and by buying votes. Communist Duma deputy Alexander Saly, former chair of the Duma Commission on Elections, has taken an active role in the investigation of the incident.

Karelia. During his visit to the republic, President Vladimir Putin met with Karelia’s governor, Sergey Katanandov, and with representatives of the timber processing industry. He also laid a wreath at a local monument to soldiers, partisans, and members of the Underground.
